Hermetic Reliability for Pulsed L-Band with the AXGS20 Gated SAW Oscillator
In avionics and defense equipment, moisture and contamination are the main long-term threats to a SAW resonator. The AXGS20 from FCD-Tech B.V. places a fast-gated L-band SAW oscillator in a hermetically sealed, industry-standard DIP14 metal package, built for decades of service in demanding environments.
Key Specifications & Performance Features
Built as a rugged pulsed source for transponders, beacons and legacy through-hole designs, the AXGS20 covers 950 to 1532 MHz, with 970, 1030, 1090, 1150 and 1532 MHz as standard frequencies.
Key advantages include:
- Hermetic DIP14 Package: A 20.7 x 13.1 x 5.2 mm metal enclosure (IEC 60679-3 CO 02), pin-compatible with the standard DIP14 crystal oscillator footprint.
- Fast Gating: 40 ns maximum turn-on and 30 ns maximum turn-off, driven from standard 5 V logic.
- High Output Power: +7 dBm minimum, +10 dBm typical into 50 Ω when gated on, dropping to −40 dBm typical when gated off.
- Low Standby Current: 35 mA typical when on and 10 mA when gated off, for efficient duty-cycled operation.
- Proven Stability: ±350 ppm overall tolerance including temperature, pushing and pulling, with ±5 ppm per year aging.
- Rugged Qualification: Operation from −40 °C to +85 °C, tested for 100 g shock and 10 g vibration per IEC 60068 and MIL-PRF-55310. 3.3 V and 12 V versions are available on request.
Applications
SSR and Mode S transponders, DME and TACAN avionics, IFF equipment, radar beacons and the replacement of legacy through-hole oscillators.
